On 4 September 2013, The Teacher Foundation celebrated the successful completion of Whole School Turnaround Project in three Bangalore schools- Al Azhar Foundation School, Florida English School and HBP Indian School. These schools had been on an incredible journey for the last two years, instituting changes in school leadership, teaching learning methodology and student environment. It was a joyous moment to see teachers gleaming as they walked in and penned their thoughts and experiences on the cutouts. As Team TTF geared up to welcome teachers, we looked back to remember the joyful moments of working together with the teachers and bonding with each one of them. The school heads shared their successes in changing their schools, improving communication among teachers through sharing and discussing thoughts and ideas.
A few teachers and mentors spoke about their transformation and shared how they practiced and implemented the learnings from the workshops into their classrooms. One of the mentors thanked and shared that she has come a long way from what she thought teaching was and moved from rote learning to implementing active learning in her classroom. Eventually, this improved student involvement in learning, which made her work more gratifying. A teacher said that her biggest takeaway from the Project was that she is now able to articulate her thoughts and express herself better.
Around 50 teachers were present for the celebration. Maya Menon, Founder Director of The Teacher Foundation spoke about how each teacher is the torch bearer for change and that they should continue reaching out to many more students. Maya congratulated the teachers for taking the onus of implementing the best teaching methodologies in their schools which every child deserves. We had a fun filled afternoon with quizzes and games for teachers and heads.
As part of the celebration, certificates were given out to schools, heads, mentors and teachers acknowledging them, applauding the change they had brought about in their schools through this project.
We from TTF felt assured that the school heads and teachers would sustain the changes and continue on the path of professional development as they evolve over the years. We expressed our gratitude for giving us the opportunity to work closely with them and bond with the schools.
