British Council organized The Third Policy Dialogue - English for Progress between November 18, 2009 and November 20, 2009. The Policy Dialogue focused on charting a way 'for English in the commercial and academic arena. Representatives from Government, Industry and Academia participated in the dialogue.

Maya Menon, Director, The Teacher Foundation was a Guest Speaker in the Policy Dialogue and she presented a paper on "In-service English Language Teacher Education" on November 20, 2009. Maya shared the essential elements of TTF's teacher development process, the challenges we have faced while working with in-service teachers and our attempts at measuring impact. She also drew parallels between The Teacher Foundation's approach to in-service teacher education and NCTE's 2006 Curricular Framework for In-service Teacher Education. The Paper explored ways forward in the specific context of the Policy Dialogue on English Language Teacher Development. [Following is the video streaming of the session on EfPOnline | Recorded]

Maya also chaired a Panel Discussion on "The Future of English Language Education: Methodological Choices", on November 20, 2009. In this session panellists and delegates discussed how English is, and should be, taught in India and Sri Lanka, and suggested ways in which both countries can ensure children leave school literate in their mother tongue and with the desired level of proficiency in English.
